Education and Demonstration
In OAEC’s wildland preserve a variety of watershed evaluation, restoration and monitoring techniques are modeled and made available to the public. Through workshops, presentations and private consultations the WATER Institute is actively sharing insights, ideas and findings.
We have implemented numerous watershed restoration examples on the 80-acre property, and we plan to develop and implement a long-term Conservation Hydrology Plan for the OAEC demonstration site. The focus of the on-site restoration activities will be on affordable, restorative practices that are applicable to the situation faced by most private landowners — those who retain the majority of land holdings in Sonoma and several other Northern California coastal counties. This demonstration will be essential in our ongoing educational activities and trainings, and will be well-documented and presented at public speaking events.
We will also continue our involvement with the Salmon Creek Middle School Watershed Restoration project, the Salmon Creek Estuary Study , and the Watershed Divide and Creek Signage Pilot Project, in the roles of consultant, educator and collaborator, and with the Estuary Study as fiscal sponsor.
Totem Salmon offers Camp Meeker Kindergartners a chance to better understand the importance of healthy watersheds in their lives and why the old dam in the background is scheduled to be demolished as part of a creek restoration and fish passsage improvement effort. |
